You cut the damaged piece out a couple of inches below the top lock of that panel then nail that part down.

Insert your zip tool into a gap between the section of siding you select and the one covering the edge of it.
With a heavy duty puddy knife open up a little under the top lock and panel that you left.
It is fairly easy to do have done it a number of times and you really have to look to see it.
Remove the nails on the lap board then use the claw of the hammer to split the board down the center image 1.
The solution may be as simple as caulking an opening or replacing a damaged or incorrectly installed piece of flashing.
